JW Takes on a Master Bathroom Remodel Project in Aurora, IL with Heated Floors & Gorgeous Jinshan Bone Travertine
April 17th, 2013
We’ve taken up a Stonebridge Design’s master bathroom update for Mr. & Mrs. Forbes of Aurora, IL. The homeowners are remodeling their master bathroom to update the design and improve the functionality of the space. We will be removing the bathtub and vanities and installing a new shower its place, increasing the shower size. We will be installing warm wire for heated floors underneath the tile.
Here is a picture of the ‘before’ space. Updated pics will be posted soon. This is not a JW project – it’s a Stonebridge Design’s project. Since it’s not our project, the remodel will be slower than usual/normal and we’ll be in and out during the course of the project.

We installed the durock on the main floor and on the shower walls and poured the shower floor base. We siliconed all the seam lines of the shower in preparation for tile. The bathroom is now ready for tile installation. We also laid warm wire to heat up the floor – perfect for those cold, chilly Chicago winter mornings. Here are a couple of a pictures of the bathroom remodel-in-progress.

We installed an 18X 18 travertine Jinshan Bone travertine tile on a 45 degree angle on the main floor with a Jinshan Bone 12×18 inch subway brick pattern on the lower half of the shower walls. We separated the top half of the shower with a linear durand separator and above we installed a Jinshan Bone subway mosaic, pillow-block, bordering it and capping it off with a durand. On the back wall, we installed a picture frame using barnes. We used a glass slate listello with a 6×6 slate 45 degree insert and we used slate 2X2 mosaic for the shower floor.
A Jinshan Bone threshold was used for the step into the shower and to cap off the knee wall. A solid slab of Jinshan Bone was used for the bench seat. Pictures to be updated soon.

Tile installation is complete for this project, grouted and sealed. The custom vanities have been installed with granite tops, undermount sinks, with oil-rubbed bronze Moen plumbing fixtures. Wall paper was added on the vanity wall with wrought-iron mirrors with matching lights. The warm wire works very well and the customer is very pleased with the new outcome and design of his master bathroom. Here are the pictures – Enjoy!
We’re looking forward to viewers’ feedback!
